Stress Free Grooming Tips

As we all know grooming is essential for all Oodles. Their hair is consistently growing instead of shedding. So like human, Oodles need to trim their hair every 4-6 weeks indefinitely. Since Grooming is unavoidable, Lets learn how to make it stress-free.

These are some tips that I find really helpful when it comes to grom my dog.

1. Introduce Them to Grooming Session as early as possible.

Puppies can adjust themselves easily to a new environment compared to full grown dog.

I personally waited the first groom until my puppy was 5months old, and she couldn’t adjust to the environment already.

And I saw one of a post from a poodle breeder that she is introducing the clipper sound and vibration from 6weeks old. Puppies seems to be surprized in the beginning, but after couple minutes they just calmed themselves out and fell a sleep.

START AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE!

2. Daily Brushing Sessions at Home

I cannot highlight enough of the importance of brushing. If Oodles coat isn’t brushed regularly, It can get matted and pick up dust and debris.

If the coat is matted, groomers will try to detangle with a brush which can take up to couple of hours and will be stressful and also painful for your dog. If the coat is seriously matted, it has to be shaved down, and this makes your dog unhappy.

Try brushing your dog every day and use this time to build a closer bond with them.

3. Associate with Positive things

No matter how used a dog is to a grooming, it is never a completely comfortable situation, since they have to be held and can’t move as they want.

It is important to help dogs associate grooming with positive experience, so they feel less stressed. For example, you can give special treats during the session or reward them with some fun playtime afterwards. If they seem overwhelmed, stop – even if you want to keep going.

Doing this will help dogs enjoy grooming sessions more.

4. Stick to One Groommer

Dogs feel more comfortable when they see a familiar face. Changing groomers too often can make them anxious or stressed.

By sticking to one groomer, your dog can build trust and enjoy grooming sessions more.

Find a groomer who really understands Oodles’ coat and stick with them!

Brushing fur or shedding hair, different battles for different breeds, though nothing will improve my dogs hatred of getting wet
